Freescale Semiconductor just wants to be free. Freescale, formerly Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS), is one of the oldest and most diverse makers of microchips in the world. It produces many different kinds of chips for use in automobiles, computers, industrial equipment, wireless communications and networking equipment, and other applications. The company's global client roster includes such blue-chip companies as Alcatel, Apple, Cisco Systems, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, QUALCOMM, Robert Bosch, and Siemens; former parent Motorola accounts for nearly a quarter of Freescale's sales.
